Dredging Fundamentals | U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

DOF developed and revised the curriculum, and provided instruction for the USACE PROSPECT Training Program on Dredging and Disposal for more than 10 years. Our Technical staff of experts taught equipment and dredging method selection, channel design, river/lake and coastal engineering, sediment characterization, environmental consideration, contaminated sediment and remediation actions, contract documents and construction oversight, dredge safety and dredging cost estimates. The course drew from a national audience of USACE employees as well as other federal, state and local agencies, including the Navy, EPA, US Fish and Wildlife Service, ports, and navigation districts. Each class was one week long with a typical enrollment of 40 people.

The courses were revised annually to provide up-to-date information on the dredging industry and dredging technology. Participant comments from course evaluation consistently stated, “I should have taken this course five years sooner” and “this is the best technical course I have ever taken …” The course instructors were given high marks on technical knowledge and communication skills.

In addition, DOF developed an independent study PROPSECT course for the USACE, Dredging QA/QC and also taught Dredge Safety through the PROSPECT program.
